Become A Freemason

At West Gate Lodge #623 F&AM, we are proud to continue a tradition of brotherhood, personal growth, and community service that dates back to our chartering in 1913. Freemasonry is a fraternity dedicated to making good men better through principles of brotherly love, relief, and truth. While we do not solicit members, we welcome inquiries from men of good character who seek to learn more about our values and traditions. If these principles resonate with you, we encourage you to explore further on your own initiative.

Below, we outline the general process for those interested in petitioning for membership in Ohio Freemasonry, as guided by The Grand Lodge of Free & Accepted Masons of Ohio. This information is provided for educational purposes to help you understand the steps involved. For personalized guidance, feel free to contact us at our lodge (614) 274-6330 and our “Contact Page” and send us a message. Remember, we are also available at info@westgate623.com

The Petition Process:

Step by Step Becoming a Freemason is a thoughtful journey that begins with personal interest and involves getting to know the brethren of a local lodge.

Express Interest and Connect: Start by reaching out to West Gate Lodge #623 F&AM through our website or by attending a public event, such as a community breakfast or open house check our “Upcoming Events” https://westgate623.com/upcoming-events. This allows you to meet our members, ask questions, and see if Freemasonry aligns with your values. You can also submit an inquiry via the Grand Lodge of Ohio's https://www.freemason.com/how-to-joinform, which can connect you with us or another local lodge.

2. Build Relationships: Spend time getting to know the brothers at West Gate Lodge #623 F&AM. We recommend attending lodge dinners or events to foster genuine connections. This step helps ensure mutual fit and is essential before proceeding.

3. Submit a Petition:  If you decide to move forward, you'll need to complete a formal Petition for Membership.

This form requires:

· Basic personal information.

· Affirmation of your belief in a Supreme Being.

· References from two current members in good standing (we can introduce you to sponsors during your visits).

· A petition fee typically around $155 with the full amount of $155 due upon submission; exact amounts can be confirmed with the lodge secretary. This will cover the first-year dues of $70 and the remainder being for investigation costs.

· Download the official Petition for Membership form from the Grand Lodge of Ohio How to Become a Freemason | Ohio Freemasonry or request one from us. Submit the completed petition to West Gate Lodge #623 F&AM

This process ensures Freemasonry remains a society of men committed to high moral standards.

5. Ballot and Acceptance: Your petition is read at a lodge meeting, and after the investigation, members vote anonymously on your admission. A unanimous ballot is required for acceptance.

These are ceremonial experiences focused on moral and ethical lessons. The entire process from petition to Master Mason can take from six weeks to six months, depending on scheduling and your readiness.
